This seems to be a new tactic on the far right suddenly - playing dumb, playing victim. I heard it last night from anti-gay activist Phil Burress, who is on the boards of Exodus International and the Arlington Group, is closely associated with Family Research Council and other groups on the Christian Nationalist right, yet claims to be blissfully unaware of their agendas.

He complained loudly about being "lumped in with a bunch of whackos" (this was during a debate with investigative journalist Michelle Goldburg) but then refused to name any of these "whackos."

Here's the formula more or less:

"So and so worked with group x."

"You're trying to tie me to whacko groups! Not fair!"

"What whacko groups? Is group x a whacko group?"

"Did I say that?"

"Well, which whacko groups are you talking about?"

"I'm not going to get into that..."

Watch for it.
